Pilar Bolero Jacket & Vest

Add artistic crochet flair to any outfit – hey, I didn’t say it – the pattern did! Why is it that pattern makers think that people will buy their patterns when they use the ugliest coloured yarn possible to showcase it and trim it in some ghastly fun fur? Really, why? This is so ugly and the only place I can see it being worn is to a Hallowe’en costume party… Anywhere else, well, heads will turn. And the colour combo…oh my!

  1. So many of these just seem to suffer from a bulk problem. Yes, if you crochet a garment in the biggest chunkiest yarn you can find it will go a lot faster…but it will also make you look 200 lbs. heavier when you put it on. Can we think feminine and delicate for once please?

  2. Well, the original in soft white is pretty. This? This reminds me of one year that my tomatos would not grow due to a mold that would attack just as the fruit would begin to turn red.

    Just like that jacket.

  3. I’m sitting here fighting off a JINORMOUS case of the shiverin’ heebie jeebies from just LOOKING at that! Once question, though: Does it glow in the dark? Ya know, that could come in real handy when coming in really late from a date, and you don’t want to wake somebody up by turning on a bunch of lights—not to mention the traffic-safety effects of the thing.

Hmm, maybe a case COULD be made for it. Only without the fun fur. With it, you’d have to go to another planet for viability.

  4. I don’t think the color is bad… some people like lime green (on occassion, I even do), and it’s WAY better than the puke green of the purse above…

BUT… the LIME green clashes terribly with the deep red fun fur with nasty confetti bits added in for an added EW! factor.

And Kelsey’s right… the fact that the yarn is so chunky really makes it a bad choice for an item of clothing. It would make you look fat, no matter how skinny you were… and heaven forbid you aren’t model skinny, because then you’ll look like a hippo (with horrendousy bad taste).

  5. I like the design…but the yarn and the colors are all just WRONG!

  6. is that Christmas tree garland around the edge???eek!

  7. omg.. thats so..

you know what? it’s like christmas threw up.

  8. I could see this in a black, possibly with one of the new Sirdar fox novelty yarns (really do look furry when knitted up) as a trim. As is though…yuck!

  9. It’s too bad, really, in a more muted colour, with thinner yarn, and without the fun fur trim, that might be lovely.

  10. Don’t use yarn from the wool of sheep who were grazing near the nuclear power plant!!

  11. This looks like something that Liberace’s grandmother might crochet for him.

  12. Good one, Jaqui!

This is just beyond my realm of comprehension. It’s easily among the ugliest crochet fugs I’ve ever seen. It’s so wrong on so many levels… the *absurd* color combination is only the beginning.

Mint leaf green (never good) and confetti-speckled red? My mind can’t wrap around who thought that was a a good idea. You’d have to either be color blind, or otherwise have taste so bad it could be considered a legal disability.

This person needs a high-fashion French poodle guide dog on a harness, to sniff out things that are actually *wearable.*

I mean, the yarns in themselves, discounting color, are that bad. Super bulky and confetti fur. Not allowed! And I hate that wretched confetti fur no matter what. It’s ugly on anything. Anything, anything, anything! It’s ugly in it’s skein! The red is the very worst… blood red with little gay (gay = cheerful) candy sprinkles through… I don’t know what the yarn company was thinking in the first place!

Another thing is that I just hate boleros. Shrugs, too. And bolero vests. Are they flattering on anybody? They make you look short and dumpy. I’m quite tall and they make me look short. No matter how tall and lean you are, they reverse the effect. They look unflattering on *supermodels.* Plus they don’t keep you properly warm, and I’ve never met a comfortable one.

And lastly, the crochet’d pattern itself… the wheels-on-the-bus-go-round-and-round pattern motif is just not pretty.

I’ve never seen an article of clothing with less going for it. The only thing this would be good for in public would be appalled stares and filthy looks.

  13. Heads WILL turn…so will stomachs. And eyes will BURN.

  14. Oh Tannenbaum. Oh Tannenbaum.

  15. I agree with everything you said. Color aside, I dont think the pattern is flattering or interesting either.

  16. OMG, that is so incredibly ugly.

  17. OMG OMG OMG OMG! NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo!! Why what one earth were they thinking? I know Neon is in but that’s taking it WAyyyyyyyyy too far!! O_O I can’t believe it!
