The designer of this…

THING,

(and not even because it’s supposed to be a spider)

should be ashamed of themselves.

And anyone who recognises it as a Daddy Long-Legs.. you need help.

Soon.

That spider would scare a child more than a real one would.

huh. my guess was a very square-headed rastifarian.

Are you sure it’s a spider? I saw something else.

My cats are drooling over the spider picture. They think it is something they once dragged in from the backyard.

Okay, I am generally opposed to amiguri. Yes, they are ridiculously cute. And yes, anything getting more people to crochet is good, but really, what do you DO with them. I made one for my daughter, thinking, Okay it’s a toy thing. She thinks it’s creepy.

And it’s not nearly as creepy as the spider-thing.

Um. Published in “By Kids For Kids” – in other words this was designed by a child, for children to make. Which is why it looks the way it does. Cut the kid some slack!

It doesn’t even look like a spider.

Good morning!
I just added a topic “Creepy toys” to my own blog, and wondered idly if anyone out there shared my interests. Found you immediately. Wow, SUCH a great blog. Splendid. Well done!
Pauline

very soon. something is wrong with pretending this thing is noting else than a stripey rectangle with strands of yarn.

I thought it was a paramecium.

But I was a biology major.

Yes, I thought it was some protozoon as well, even when I’m IT :-D

Kate, you’ve some how made it cute again. I like the idea of a paramecium. It’s interesting how your background can affect what you see. My husband is an electronic engineer, so I saw a microchip.

That is an interesting spider

That is the ugliest spider I’ve ever seen, bar none.

Now that is a little scary. The first one was cute but that thing is just…..

Oh come on. I bet you wouldn’t all be so hard if it was a cuter animal than a spider.

It looks like a sandwich I left in my lunchbox when I was a kid… Stayed the whole summer in my lunchbox and when I took opened it for Fall…

My initial reaction was UGH — but after reading GadgetGirl’s comment above — if this was done by a kid, then sure, cut them some slack. Big difference between something a child comes up with, and an experienced adult designer coming up with something like this… It’s neat that some kids had the chance to have their own items published…

Wow. I’ve never seen such snotty comments about such an irrelevant past-time. It’s nice to know you people are all hiding on the internet rather than walking around and harassing me on the street.

Actually, I probably am the sort to harass you on the street. And I don’t consider crochet irrelevant, anyway.

In any case, if my child were to crochet this and tell me honestly that they think it looks like a Daddy Long Legs, I’d have a long and serious talk with them and a book on animals.

I’d be pretty happy that they’d be crocheting, though.

well, if my child made it i would be happy they are trying at least, some people can be really mean about these sort of things, that includes everyone here!

do you know where to get the bat and cat patterns!???? i MUST have them!!!!!

Aww I wanted the bat pattern too! T_T Even though I don’t really know how to crochet. The closest to a pattern for it I was able to find was http://amigurumikingdom.etsy.com/
That person seems to be the one who made it, though there’s no pattern up at the moment. Meh.

…..When I saw this, I honestly
HONESTLY
thought:
“That looks more like a harvestman (daddy long-legs) than a spider.”
It’s the stripes.

But yeah, I made a few fairly mutated beaded tarantulas when I was a kid. ….Which I was thinking might excuse me from knowing too much about weird art-project spiders, but now I’m thinking actually works against me in this argument.

I’ll shut up now.

wow this is really sad cause u guys dont hav anything to do with ur lives but rip on little toys.thats jus sad

When I first stumbled upon this blog I was a little sad. I thought “aaaw, I love crochet, don’t be mean to it.” But I continued reading and saw that it’s in good humour. There’s no bashing of good crocheting, just awful crocheting. Awful awful crocheting.

and hola, at least we’ve learnt the basics of the English language and then used it to bash small toys. Too bad you’re so busy doing other things that aren’t sad to learn some grammar.

hey don’t be trashing on poor hola cuz your to busy being snooty and mean, I say this once and clear, SCREW YOU MEAN AND SNOBBY PPL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least this spider has the correct number of legs!

my fist reaction was to laugh at it too, but then I thought about it – I would far rather have this spider than one of the numerous crochet/etc “spiders” I have seen online that only have 6 (or even worse – 4) legs … why worry if it looks like whatever spiders you are familiar with or not if you don’t worry about how many legs it has? – there are probably millions of different species of spiders in the world, and some of them are just as peculiar looking as this one … but the ALL have 8 legs (unless they had the misfortune to loose one or 3 due to some mis-adventure).
btw … after looking at it a few times – it has kind of grown on me … how can I not like a poor rejected misfit like that? LOL

Wow… the crocheting community doesn’t sound like a friendly one to become a part of. I wonder if the knitters are nicer…

er … I don’t think the few comments here are nescessarily reprasentative of the whole crochet community – lol
(in fact some of them probably don’t crochet at all)
I am on a couple of crochet e-mail lists, and have been on some others, and have “met” quite a few crocheters on those lists, and a few more who are not on lists but I have found their blogs – and most of them are really nice helpful people … I have also “met” a few knitters online and they seem to be much the same …

btw, From what I can work out from reading it – this blog was meant to be a bit of fun … maybe some people are taking things a bit to seriously?
