What Not to Crochet

It’s been a while…

Posted by: SB&C on: September 10, 2008

Since I threw down a vintage item and said “have at it, my pretties!” with a cackle and a black furry sidekick, just to complete the picture, so…..

This has got to be food for your most inspired banter:

Okay..   *cackle*stroke black cat*cackle*

Where, OH Where! do we start????

What woman, honestly, *doesn’t* want a nipple level pink geometrical bib top thing??

With matching, and somewhat funky-crotched, shorts no less??

And on the other hand, to go with your American Tan Pantyhose and powder blue tie/blouson thing, something Acrylic and a skirt that has issues.

Is this the 80’s come back to haunt us??

Maybe the black hole that the scientists working on the Supercollider are going to create should swallow us all!! Save us from the Fug!!!

No, not the 80’s… I’m guessing late 70’s tho. Look at the headscarf and the high-neck butterfly collars. UGH!

Ya know, if this was made for a 3 to 5 year old girl, then maybe… but no, not for an adult.

and…….. maybe it is just my eyes….but pinky there has quite a bit of ‘frontal bulge’ for a female…….

and FYI………. I have two black cats. Twin boys actually.

Oh dear, where to begin? This is definitely a reminder that the 70’s lasted ten years longer than should have been allowed. Color, texture, design, drape… all of the above is rot. The big question I have is what is that suspicious bulge in the front of the shorts??? Is this model one of RuPaul’s old buddies or is her ass on backwards?

The one thing that gets me, every time, is the errr… accesorizing, I guess.
What is going on on these women heads? On the outside I mean (There must be silent crying for help on the inside)

Yeow! I wish I hadn’t seen these. These designs make me very vey sad. I believe the bulge in the shorts is because of how she’s standing… I hope.

Crochet shorts? Crochet shorts!? Why? How? And they look so tightly stitched as to be bullet proof.

OMG!!! Thank the lord I never saw anything that horrid in the 60’s, 70″s or 80’s. I know you guys out there are saying how old ARE you anyway. I am 58 yrs so not any youngster for sure. But I would never have worn anything that awful nor would anyone I knew back then either. That is beyond bad dressing.

And both models look anorexic/bulimic. Of course, neither of those items would be wearable by someone who actually has curves anyway.

I really like the Tank and Skirt, just not the way they executed it.
“Old dried up puddle of mustard” yellow, plus faded blood stain red and uh, robin’s egg blue acrylic?? Uuuuuh. Yeah.

I think it would be pleasent stitched up in a nice maroon DK or Sport weight wool, perhaps something tweedy for the skirt.

What’s with the badly made half doily on the pink one? And the little checker motif in the middle of the skirt of the blue one just looks like a mistake. Let’s face it, the whole thing must be some terrible, terrible mistake.

One thing I can say – at least they take the focus off the nasty giant pointy Ronald McDonald collar/matching humungous tie combo the models are wearing.

Definitely 70s. Something out of “Mary Tyler Moore,” except Mary would have worn the actual crocheted outfit and Rhoda would have worn the scarf. Strike that! Mary wouldn’t have worn that outfit in a million years! (I wasn’t wowed by Mary’s wardrobe, but she had better taste than *this*). Rhoda gets the scarf, Mary wears something else altogether, and Mrs. Brady crochets the outfits for Jan and Marcia, who have the good sense not to wear them!

Plain dc in horizontal stripes is one of the ugliest manifestations of crochet, BTW!

There’s just so many things wrong with this I can do nothing but laugh. I don’t understand how the one model can be SMILING. Maybe her outfit would be better if the colors were different.

As for the other, jeez, I’d look down, too!

I am going to pretend I’ve never seen this.

That is all.

haha. can you post links for where you found these things? I am interested in crocheting some of them.
