What Not to Crochet

Just out of curiousity?

Is there really a reason why you’d crochet over your motorcycle?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s the ultimate cozy! Completely useless, since you’d have to take it off to use the bike, but toaster cozies must be removed, too, right? LOL.

But if you’re going to crochet over your motorcycle, of course you’d do it in clashing shades of pink.

Are you kidding? I LOVE this!

WAW
one must admit that this is kinda cool (not sure about pink colour).

To keep the dust off, of course!

Where do you FIND these things?? YOU are the best searcher of the worst crochet ever!

Coming out of regular lurkdom to say, “Oh, my.”

I just stared at it and blinked… I first noticed the tires… then the exhaust pipe, then the engine! Its a fire hazard on wheels!

You gotta hand it to the people with way… W-A-Y… too much time on their hands. I can see it now, a little old lady with a ton of scrap Red Heart thinking to herself “What will look good in dusty rose”? It almost makes me yearn for the good ol’ days of the Granny Square… almost.

Really?? Nothing better to do with your time?

OMG that is just wrong!

Oh. My. God.

I already imagine a “Hello Kitty” biker on that …

Questions:
1. Why pink?
2. Why would you waste so much time?
3. If you ride it, you are going to wear out the yarn on the tires?
4. whats with all the little xxx on it…..how sweet …er not.

I’d say it would be an art reason, the feminisation of the motorcycle which is generally considered to be masculine. It sort of looks like a super cute pink girls bicycle, it needs tassles.

The use of the triple X is interesting, it could be a reference to XX the chromosomes that determine the female sex or more likely to be a reference to the use of XXX in pornography and the literalness of the pink female bike being ‘ridden’ by a man.

Could you let us know where you found the image?

Are you kidding???? That is so cool!
I LOVE it! It’s fun, and creative and took so much talent!

Because it makes the bike cozier.

Where did you find this? There may be no *reason* for crocheting over your cycle but… this is kind of awesome. :)

Hmm…person with motorcycle pisses off person with crochet hook? And then leaves for an extended camping trip? And comes back to THIS?!

It could be the Ultimate Revenge.

Wow That’s Thee Best Crocheting I’ve Ever Seen

Immense! :)

OMG, that’s *fabulous*. I’d be tempted to do it to my motorcycle… but I sold it last month. :(

This is so bad that you just have to like it. kinda like a pug!

Are they going to publish the pattern in one of those Leisure Arts leaflets?

“Motorcycle Cozies for the Woman on the Go”

Be afraid, be very afraid!

Someone came out of the closet.

What a laugh. Thanks!
I will put your link on my site so that others might enjoy the laughs with me.

Now see here! You’re usually very funny and what not. But you’ve got your noive hating on the mauve Harley, hon. *grin* Seriously, have you seen the tree cozy? Now THAT is a thing that should never be crocheted. Honestly! Now I feel totally compelled to go out and find something that hasn’t been cozied so I can get a picture on your site. You crack me up more with every post. And to think, the only thing I ever got out of my insomnia is a killer high score at Diner Dash and a house full of Breyer horses.

Trish

This is sooo…..completely bizarre, I love it! If I had a motorcycle, I’d make one of these! Hey, I know, how about a miniature one for Barbie’s motorcycle! Paging Annie’s Attic!

I wonder when this will catch on with the big motorcycle gangs? Black leather jacket, black leather chaps, black leather fingerless gloves, black leather do-rag, black leather boots… and a pretty pink cozy covering the Harley.

This is awesome, it’s totally a renegade craft grrrl kinda project.

For all those people harping on it being such a waste of time, look at your own projects. I’m sure your lives are soooo exciting, reading blogs and making run of the mill scarves and sweaters. When all the while you could have been working on a BADAZZ crazy pink crochet MOTORCYCLE, in the name of ART!

This is the funniest thing I ever saw!

Many things are done in the name of “art” that shouldn’t be done at all. It’s a label people hide behind. This might be art to the person who did it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not hideous to someone else. I sure hope the guy who owns this bike is secure in his sexuality–and his buddies are too!

obviously, the bike wasn’t pink enough…

I believe this is a knitted motorcycle.

Where’s the pattern, I want to do it now

Revenge.

Revenge is a dish best served… pink?

Oh dear…

I can’t believe none of you have been industrious enough to ferret out the artist! This is the work of Theresa Honeywell….Here’s a gallery of photos of the motorcycle and some of her other work here:

Much love!

NOT A FUG! I love this blog, I usually get a great laugh out of it. But I totally disagree with posting this one. It’s not a commercial pattern nor is it displayed as fashion. It’s a one-off art piece, and an amazingly impressive one at that.

I love it and I admire the creativity and work of the artist who made it. This is the sort of thing that, in my opinion, makes crochet viable as more than just a craft but also as an artistic medium.

And to those of you who think this was a waste of time… tell me, is all art a waste of time? Most of it serves no practical purpose.

Just because you don’t like it, which is your absolute right, doesn’t make it a waste of time. Wastes of time (IE: fugs) are hideous things that you expect others to like, or buy, or wear, or enjoy. Things that are supposed to be practical, but aren’t. That should be pretty or cute yet fall outside the mark.

This isn’t supposed to be anything but what it is. It’s a crochet’d motorcycle cover. It exists to be that and nothing else.

And it blows my mind!

very cute

WOWWWWW How awesome is THAT! Im NOT a crocheter but I do quilt and ride motorcycle. I thought the military tank covered in pink squares of crochet to make it look like a quilt was awesome, but THIS pic sure beats the heck outa that! Can I put this in my blog to share with others???

ROFL! I LOVE it. Pinks my favorite color~! Of course you have to take it off to ride it , since yarn would melt on the heat of the pipes………

Robin

Gotta love this, And Maryann, kudos to you as well. It is all that it is. I love it.

such an ugly waste of yarn

This is truly awsome and might have taken a very long time my mom crochets too and I spin the yarn for her so this is amazing
thanks,
Chelsie R.

Because you can.

I for one saw this piece in person. This is a MFA thesis piece in fiber arts from the University of Georgia a few years back. It isn’t about being useful it is an art project and a damn fine one at that. Her work was an exploration of femininity through a stereotypical feminine art form. She now has her Masters.

Can’t help it, I think it’s cool! I’m not fond of the colors. But the idea is awesome, imho.
