What Not to Crochet

Don’t Bear Abuse

Posted by: SB&C on: April 28, 2008

The greatest tragedy in the world (to me anyway – you all, as free thinking individuals may disagree) is that there are children whose lives are shattered by those who they should be able to trust.

Newspapers show their parents being led away in handcuffs, fathers who have imprisoned daughters, the list is endless and there are photos of children with broken eyes who are afraid to look at you, and if they do..

They are always seem to be asking Why.

Why did love, turn into a nightmare?

In my usual hunt for abominations against the gentle innocence of crochet, I found this:

And my usual reaction of “Holy snappin’ duck doo-doo!!” or “ING!!!” wasn’t applicable here.

My thought was that the image was unbelieveably creepy.

For a number of reasons.

Firstly , as all true believers know – Crocheted Clowns are an abomination against the Yarn Gods.

But – there’s just something so horrible in the Clown’s self satisfied grin and the downcast look of the Teddy that my scalp is pricking (let alone my thumbs).

*SHUDDER*

The message for today is : don’t bear abuse.

(and that pattern could be used as an advertisement!)

Raise your Crochet Hooks high & Speak out against abuse in all forms (not just crochet)!

Oh! That clown is enough to create phobias.

that looks like something out of Steven Kings imagination. eekkkkkkkkkkkkkk

I’m a lurker who loves your site. Keep posting!

Why is its nose in its mouth?

Is the clown swallowing his own nose? The doll itself isn’t bad, but the face is unfortunate.

Of course clowns are evil! Anyone else remember John Wayne Gacy?????????????? Seriously, anyone who even suspects abuse, pick up the phone and call the police NOW. Your call might save a child’s life.

I’ve been lurking on this journal for awhile, but this one I loved even more than usual! Seriously, that thing is so creepy it made my terrible day wonderful. How does something manage to be both so creepy AND so weirdly made?

…What? Clowns don’t have noses in their mouths? Eek!

A clown will not bite me… A clown is not a big spider… A clown will not throw me in the basement…

Creepy AND poorly constructed! Throw in “bad smelling” and you hit the trifecta on this one!

Can we say “Poltergeist”? that’s the first thing I thought when I saw that clown, remember when the clown pulled the kid under the bed?

there is something just so creepy about clowns….in the town were I live, every 3 years or so, clowns for all over the world meet and have carnivals in the streets…..yikes shudder! I hate it! and its true…crocheted clowns make my goose bumps come up and I go quite cold and creeped out!

“Eat your nose to spite your face” maybe that was the lesson the has learned.

definitely _creepy_. anyone who would make this and give it to a child should be locked up without any chance for parole because it’s just plain _evil_

I swear, it’s got fangs.

…does that clown have fangs?

Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?

I also noticed the eating its own nose problem. It also looks like a photo of if the clown had just abused the bear in a physical not good way.

It’s like when somebody says “That stinks” and you automatically breathe more deeply… I keep coming back to this photo. Maybe it’s a morbid fascination with evil. Who knows? At any rate, I think I’ve finally figured out what’s in the clown’s mouth. It’s the fluffly little tail of the unfortunate bunny that became a midday snack. It’s horrifying but I can’t stop looking…

OMFG !!! This clowns looks like a serial killer. Gives me nightmares !

Is it me, or does it look like a ball gag on the clown? there are far too many things wrong with this clown.

*shudder*

Aaaah, it escaped from Stephen Kings movie ‘It’. *shiver*

And I thought the clown from Poltergeist was scary!

Oh my, if only you could have seen my reaction that picture. I’m scared enough of clowns, but a vampire clown is too too much.

Any child receiving that would need years of therapy.

First of all…

I DEFEND CROCHETED CLOWN DOLLS WITH MY LIFE!

I always have on this blog.

My great-grandmother made me a pair when I was little. They have sewn faces and they are cute, cute, cute! (Next time you post a clown doll, I’m getting out the camera.) They were my favorite toys as a little girl, and I still have them. I live in San Diego and when we were threatened by wild fire last year, guess what was among the first things I packed in case I had to evacuate?

That’s right. A pair of crocheted clown dolls.

But even I, defender of almost all crocheted clowns, cannot in good conscience defend this. It looks like it’s straight out of a horror movie.

GAAAH!
