I’m not saying this is fugly.
I’m saying that when considered as a whole AND as in it’s individual elements, this dress is an excellent example of what not to crochet.
It doesnt work.

But this was printed for inspiration!
This dress was published in Russian crochet/knitting magazine ‘Zhurnal mod’. They didn’t have a pattern for that dress, all they say was “This is freeform crochet. You should be very careful while making this kind of garments: we advise making a pattern for your size and compare your work to the pattern every now and then.”
Looks like a recycled tablecloth! I’d like to see the model stand up so we can actually see the whole thing. It’s hard to tell how it drapes. Maybe it used to be drapes??? :O)
Ohh my that would be a lovely dress IF it had a linen lining to it, or maybe stretch lycra! So I agree with you there. I really like the top, would make a great swimsuit! Ohh my, I’ll just go about crocheting my grandsons hand mitts! It took me forever to find a pattern long enough for his huge hands, he has the longest fingers! Blessings Diana Adams
Not outdoor wear for sure unless at a nudist camp.
maybe a bathing suit cover up?
My mom used to make those goofy Scarlett O’Hara looking bed dolls many years ago. I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone made a lifesize porno version.
It’s wrong, it’s so wrong. This dress makes even the model’s boobs look south bound.
Yeah it does look like lingerie! Hey baby, come check out my crocheted lingerie… Really??
Love the color, but I agree that this NEEDS a lining- unless you’re never wearing it outside of your bedroom…
And that poor little cut-off motif does look so sad… like someone chopped it off as an afterthought.
Not saying I would wear it, but I think we’re entering culture clash turf here. The pattern looks Russian or Eastern European, judging by the Cyrillic letters and the look of the model. The Russians are big fans of lace, so I’m thinking it’s less like fug and more like a difference in international aesthetics.
A Spears girl would wear it, for sure!
I kind of like it, but I don’t think I’d be brave enough at this stage of life!
MAYBE as a beach cover up, but a dress…no…it’s very tacky
Here is the cover of that magazine with the front view of the dress – samm asked for this

I’ve uploaded the picture to a free photohosting site, but the site shows banners – and this is a warning inspired by your most recent post.
Holy Smokes! Just checked out the picture posted by olga. I envy their freedom to “fly solo” (sans undergarments). Is that *hair* I see peeking through the dress?!!
Wish you would provide the URLs for the patterns. Just for the educational value of course.
agree about the URL… i wanna make some of this (as “art” of course
)
Sorry to disagree, but I think it is fairly stunning! No, of course I would not crochet it OR wear it (oh, that I had that body!) but this is the kind of high fashion design that isn’t really meant to be worn by the average person. I looked at the front view version of it and it hangs quite nicely, actually.
I actually like it. Would I wear it….uh, no. Still like it though.

I think the girl is trying to be a contortionist… Look at how unnatural her position is! She’s seriously torquing her back! That’s what stands out as most wrong.
As for the actual dress-type thing… Maybe if it was a different color? And you wore a nice white cotton dress under it? With puffed cap sleeves? I don’t know.
I guess I will be in the minority but I really like this dress. – the color and, the patterning. It just needs a stretch lining, for actual wear. Or think how it would look in all white or all black?
You know, no one wears all those daring or see-through catwalk fashions from the big designers “as-is” – l they are LINED and often re-styled to suit the buyer.
I have to disagree – i absolutely love it and the color blue is gorgeous and wish i could pull it off
I agree I love it too, wish I had a bod to go with it (trying) but I think with an underskirt the same color it would be fantastic! Wish I had the pattern for it I do know a few ladies (with the underskirt) that could and would wear it!
The bodice of the dress is off kilter. Look at the bra cups. They don’t match. If they matched correctly, then the dress would have been nice.

That’s a dress? I’d believe lingerie, but without a lining, no way does it qualify as a dress.
