There’s a time and a place for the Granny Square.
It’s invaluable for using yarn we can’t bear to toss.
It can be used to make some cute items.
It can be hideous.

If it weren’t for the hair I would swear this was from the 60s or 70s. This must be one of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen. What self-respecting human being would wear such a thing? I suppose, if you made a really long one, though, and your car broke down in the middle of a blizzard…it’d come in right handy.
Words fail me.
You know, if that was on like a 5 year old and in coordinating colors it wouldn’t be so bad. But wow. Not for an adult.
LOL! I am really enjoying the business attire with the “scrap” skirt…surely is NOT a fashion faux pas. What’s with the jump shot?
Did she spill something on her regular clothes while at Grandma’s house for lunch and grab whatever she could find to wrap around her? That’s about what it looks like
Yuck!
Duuude
What color is the sky in THEIR universe to actually think that is cool, hip or anything remotely resembling crochetable?
Where is Jay (from Project Runway season 1) when you need him????
Is it just me, or does the text on the left of the picture sound like badly translated Japanese? “with a happy look”!?
And yeah, on a small child, in colors that work together, maybe. But NOT to the board meeting! Say no!!
I understand why she was wearing the long coat. To cover up the fug!
I often wonder about the people who model these things and what they are thinking. How do you suppose this woman kept such a nice smile on her face knowing that what she was wearing was so stupid looking? Do you think her friends taunt her with this?
OMG that this is hideous!!!! I wouldn’t give that to my dog to sleep on!
I have a TON of crochet books from the 70s that have things like this in them. They fall in the category of “NO, DAMMIT!” Sometimes, I think patterns like this are gags on the crocheting public.
well that would be a career killer for sure. This should be filed under what not to wear to a job interview.
Jen, maybe SHE didn’t. Could it be photoshopped onto her frame. Looks too short…..
I had the same reaction as Lee–it’s so weird with the rest of her outfit that it looks photoshopped. Who in the world would think that this skirt fits into a business-casual outfit?
I want a girl with a short skirt and a loooong jacket.
wow now that really is vile! lol I would love to have overheard the stylist on that photo shoot!
OH, how terrible! Those boots SO don’t go with that skirt!
And this, people, is the reason I screamed when my aunt asked me to crochet her a skirt!
I’ve seen the concept of granny squares used to make skirts executed before (several of them even looked pretty nice on the teenagers the designs were geared towards) but this one is not attractive. It’s too short and there is no one base color that ties all of the multicolored squares together. The concept is fine, but I would tweak the design and I would not wear this to the office.
I think it is patchwork, but it’s suite only for crocheting coverlets and plaids to make some cosiness in a cottage
Look Gram! I’m wearing your Pot Holders!
i was so waiting for a punchline on this one… like: oh this is actually an article from The Onion newspaper
That picture just screams:
“I was visiting my nana and had a menstrual breach, and while my other skirt is soaking in oxyclean at her house, I wrapped her afghan around my waist. It’s jaunty… no?”
My eyes are bleeding!
Hey put the granny skirt with the granny shirt. Wow! Wouldn’t that be a fashion statement
Hey, I know, put the granny square skirt with that ever so lovely granny square blouse!! Now there’s a fashion statement!!
lmao!!! That is just soooo wrong.
Looks like she was late for work and grabbed an afghan off the couch to wrap around her waist.
I am totally against afghans-as-clothing in any form!
Wow, those colors are just, I, wow, that’s just WRONG. Knit 1 mag had a cute mini from granny squares in the fall 2006 issue I believe, shades of dark blue, really cute over jeans. This one here though, with a blazer no less. But the model does look happy.
OMG. The title just says it all…
Grooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn.
It wasn’t bad enough to begin with… they had to put it with a freaking business suit. A business suit!
That thing would get most people fired on the spot!
