What Not to Crochet

Furry Sweaters

Posted by: whatnottocrochet on: January 19, 2006

As said by the person who submitted this to WNTC: “…for every woman who always wanted a furry chest!” And I think that pretty much sums of this monstrosity. The pattern is free and reads “eyelash adorns 4-ply for great flair”….ya, whatever…maybe if you want to look like a gorilla. Geez, if it was black fun fur, you’d never know the difference! And to think they give this pattern free to promote the magazine for “crochet lovers”…puke!

I have a contribution (link) to this blog, but don’t know how to submit it.

Hi Karen…please email submission to: whatnottocrochet AT yahoo DOT com. Thanks!

I love this site! That’s a scary sweater. It’s guaranteed to make anyone who doesn’t know much about crochet, a crochet-hater. I’m just saying…….

It reminds me of one of those vikings in the Capital One commercials.

her jeans are all messed up too!

it almost reminds me of armor or something…..like the fuzz body is a solid block of metal covered with a muppet pelt and the arms are chain mail. striking fear into the heart of the enemy. and that enemy is good taste.

Going to a reunion? Need to add 20 lbs fast? Here ya’ go!!! If you haven’t already got that extra spare tire going, here’s a furry friend sweater to make it look like you do!

Is this left over from 1983???

it’s from the book “how to get your butt kicked in high school.” sigh.

I thought I was the only person that didn’t understand fun fur! Why do people insist on using it? Especially on clothes. Yeti, anyone? I think it is useless, hideous, and the inventor of it needs to be punished. Severely.

I don’t even like fun fur for scarves anymore.

I think people use it because it covers up all your knitting mistakes so it’s perfect for beginners.

You should only be allowed to use one ball of this crap per project, if any.

Oh, lord. I know where this is from. As it turns out the only patterns from this particular issue I’d actually make were the ones posted for free – except for this sweater. The editors, it seems, have never met a fun fur pattern they didn’t see fit to print – or based on the ones they have printed, I’d hate to see what got rejected.

(Actually, if they’d updated their website for the previous issue (which they didn’t), there was another piece ofl fun fur gawdawfulness they inflicted on us that I’d planned to tip you off to. If I can find a pic of the item in question I’ll still share…)

I’m trying to be kind here. Hmm, let me see. . .oh wait—I think I’ve got it. It’s, it’s, yes—it’s COLOUR COORDINATED!

Whew! That took a lot out of me!

she looks like a wilder beast hahaha

I suppose it could be used in a car wax commercial.

You see a car freshly washed and slathered with Turtle Wax. Our comes Buffy, who
oh so seductively glosses that baby to a high shine wearing her new flufffy sweater.

I wonder if chenille or just cotton would leave fewer streaks?

No, the saddest thing about this furry sweater is how happy the model looks. I know she’s paid to look happy but still. Maybe she’s just laughing at the hideousness ?

Actually, if anyone can tell me what website is that has this pattern I’d really like to make a sweater using the pattern for the sleeves. As for the funfur body………YIKES!!

it scares me

Grimmice, from Mc Donald’s ads!

I was wondering where my Furby went.

Run for your life! It’s Sasquatch!

ooh great, another waste of time. that one will mat all to heck too.
